Biblical History of Man: The Flood part 6

A part of the theory of the flood that has been presented here involves the catastrophic movement of the continental land masses of the earth on a lubricating layer of water from their pre-flood locations to their present locations.

As a result of the depletion of that water, the continents came to a screeching halt, causing buckling and major mountain-building episodes.  Since this occurred rapidly, these mountains would have a major impact on the spin of the earth on its axis.  Because mountain-building would be occurring all over the earth, many of these events would have their impact cancelled out.  But there is one area of the earth where the mountains have no corresponding mass on the other side of the earth to balance its effects, and that is the region of the Himalayas.  The mass of rock in that region is immense. 

The effect of such and event of the building of this mountain range would be to throw the earth off balance.  Centrifugal forces would make the Asian continent want to slip to the south.  That mountain mass would only be in balance if it was on the equator. 

But the earth has an even larger mass that compensates...called the equatorial bulge.  It's a "donut" around the equator of the earth's spin.  And that will act to counteract some of that lack of balance.  So the earth had to come to a new equilibrium.  I would describe this event as a shudder.  The earth shuddered.  Now since the earth is pretty big...that's a pretty big shudder!

It's likely that the continents ended up in slightly different positions that they would have had this not happened.  The movement would have taken several hundred years as the earth balanced itself out to that new equilibrium.

There is evidence of this shift of the continents in the astronomical measurements of all the ancient cultures.  A change in the location of the continents on the surface of the earth would change the way the stars are seen from any one place.  Astronomers have measured the changes and are baffled by the differences.  They explain them only on the basis of time.  Long times.

We will see as we look at ancient man towards the end of our study that every culture erected some form of structure to use for astronomical calculations.  This would be an attempt to re-establish what they used to know and now was changed.
